CG’s team of star bakers took home gold when it won a bake off against its client, Elliotts.
Elliotts, the South's leading independent supplier of building products for the trade and public, challenged CG to a bake off over Twitter to raise funds for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.
After days of fighting talk and cake puns, CG invited Julie Hancock, a cake decorating tutor at City College Southampton, to judge the contest and decide which company would come out on top.
The bakers each spent a weekend lovingly crafting cakes, brownies, biscuits and macaroons to fit Comic Relief’s red theme before carefully bringing them in for the judging at Elliotts’ head office.
Julie said:
“It was a delight to be asked to judge the bake off and I thought the quality was very good, considering not everyone is a regular baker. Some people had clearly taken a lot of effort with the presentation and decoration of the cakes, and for Comic Relief it’s all about the visual impact.
“I left both CG and Elliotts with some advice for next year, and I can’t wait to come back and see what they come up with at their next bake off.”
As the final votes came in it was neck and neck between CG and Elliotts, with CG just managing to tip the scales in favour of winning.
Laura Downton, PR manager at CG, said:
“We’re so proud to have tried our hands at something new and succeeded. Everyone really got into the competition, and we loved getting our clients involved. It was a bonus to be able to have so much fun and raise some well-deserved funds for Comic Relief.
“Now we can add award-winning cakes to our long list of accolades!”
