Red Funnel has made a young passenger’s day after replacing his much loved bear who went missing, with a brand new companion named Ted Funnel.
7-year-old Arlen, who lost his beloved teddy Edward while on holiday on the Isle of Wight, made a new best friend in the form of Ted Funnel – a cuddly bear in an Isle of Wight jumper.
Following a trip from East Cowes to Southampton, Arlen’s mum Cher Warne got in touch with Red Funnel to see if Edward could be located on board.
While Edward couldn’t be found, the ferry firm sent Cher photos of Ted Funnel enjoying a trip on board on his way to be posted to Arlen, including shots of the bear meeting the captain up in the bridge, sitting with a full English breakfast and looking out over the Solent.
Cher said:
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of the staff at Red Funnel. Ted’s little adventure and the kind gesture brought tears to my eyes and reassured my faith in humankind. Arlen is delighted with Ted Funnel and took him to school for show and tell, and I’ve promised Arlen we’ll go back to the Isle of Wight soon so Ted can visit his friends at Red Funnel.”
Jonathan Green, marketing and communications director for Red Funnel, said:
“We’re delighted we’re able to cheer up Arlen in some way after losing Edward. Red Funnel strives to go the extra mile to make sure our passengers, both big and small, are happy and we just know Arlen and Ted Funnel will be firm friends for a long time to come.”
