CG helped its client Red Funnel reveal a major news story for the Isle of Wight and Solent region at a top secret press conference.
Last week, Red Funnel announced the build of a new Red Jet hi-speed ferry on the Isle of Wight to a rapturous audience of journalists from across the South, spanning print, broadcast and online.
The firm’s new vessel will be built by Isle of Wight company Shemara Refit, and constructed in East Cowes’ famous ‘Union Jack’ building – the Columbine building at Venture Quays.
Journalists and bloggers from across the Isle of Wight and Solent area were invited by CG’s PR team to a top secret media call and attended, enticed by the promise of a major announcement by Red Funnel.
The brand new Red Jet 6, which will be built to go into service in summer 2016, was revealed as a curtain covering the front of the Columbine building fell away, displaying an artists’ impression of the new vessel.
Red Funnel CEO, Kevin George, told journalists how the company had searched all over the world to find someone to build Red Jet 6 and found the answer in its back garden with Shemara Refit. The vessel will be the first of its kind to be built in the UK for 15 years and will provide 40-50 jobs for people on the Isle of Wight.
Laura Downton, PR account manager at CG, said:
“It was very exciting to be such an integral part of Red Funnel’s big announcement. We achieved some fantastic coverage on the Red Jet 6, including TV and seven regional radio stations. We even saw the term ‘Red Jet 6’ trending on Twitter throughout the UK just after the embargo was lifted, which was a phenomenal result.”
Since the press conference, Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner has raised the news of Red Jet 6 in Parliament, where Red Funnel was praised by Chris Grayling MP, the Leader of the House of Commons.
