Southampton Cultural Development Trust has announced the keynote speakers and host for the second annual Cultural City Conference, taking place across two city centre venues, Nuffield Southampton Theatres City and The Spark, Solent University, on 28 June 2019.
The speakers include Andrew Dixon, Director of Culture City Place; arts administrator and consultant Michaël Roumen; and freelance researcher and cultural policy advisor Ruth Melville.
Andrew Dixon has worked with more than 80 local authority areas and has 35 years of experience promoting places through culture, including leading the successful Hull bid for City of Culture in 2017.
Arts administrator and consultant Michaël Roumen not only represents artists from different disciplines and places, including a poet from Genua, a musician from Berlin and a visual artist from Leiden, but is also leading the Dutch programme for Mayflower 400.
While Ruth Melville has a storied career specialising in embedded research design, impact measurement and creative research. She has worked as Monitoring and Research Advisor to Aarhus European Capital of Culture 2017 and as Critical Friend to the Transported and Market Place Creative People and Places project, among other experiences.
Veronica Gordon, Journalist and Presenter at ITV Meridian and Unity 101 respectively, has been announced as MC for Cultural City Conference 2019.
The Cultural City Conference is a unique, one-day event, which aims to provide a forum for all members of the community to explore, debate and further the cause of embedding culture into the future ambitions of Southampton.
This year, it will explore themes of place, community and international partnerships through interactive workshops, talks and panel discussions with industry experts, local businesses, universities and cultural organisations.
Cultural City Conference 2019 is presented by the Trust, in partnership with Southampton Solent University, University of Southampton, Solent Showcase Gallery, Nuffield Southampton Theatres and Southampton City Council.
