At CG we like to stay on the cutting edge, which is why we've called upon the talents of a 14 year old.
Keiran works in the CG web department every Wednesday as part of the long-term work placement scheme run by his school, Inspire Enterprise Academy Southampton. The school focuses on making sure young people are prepared for the world of work with the right skills that will see them succeed in employment or further education.
Every student at the school attends one-to-one coaching with an expert career mentor. Keiran expressed an interest in website development and coding, so we thought he would be a perfect fit for our web team.
So far he's been busy learning the basics of coding and getting to grips with some of the systems that are used to manage fully featured websites and content, with the help of web developer, Jackson.
Keiran has progressed so much in the short 4 weeks that he's been with us that he has now moved onto digital projects such as coding and designing a website to a brief, as well as carrying out a usability study on a currently live website, making suggestions as to where improvements could be made, and why they would improve the website.
Jackson said:
"I've been really impressed with the progress that Keiran has made in the time he's been coming to CG. Personally I've found it very fulfilling mentoring and passing on my skills to a young person, and I'm glad to see that schools are recognising the need to train students from a young age to prepare them for the world of work.
"If an opportunity like this had been available when I was at school, I would have snapped it up."
