Blue Lamp Trust Conference welcomes Tiff Needell

Former racing driver and current television presenter, Tiff Needell spoke about the need to make the county's roads a safer place at The Blue Lamp Trust's Annual Conference last week (17 June).

Tiff took to the stage to give delegates tips on how to keep control at the wheel to ensure people who drive to work do so more safely. Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney, Chief Fire Officer Dave Curry, Alison Jones from Exxon Mobil Fawley and Kirsty Jenkins from Hampshire Making Safe Scheme also spoke at the event, which was attended by employers, directors, HR managers, fleet managers and health and safety managers.

Other topics included the work of the Blue Lamp Trust's Bobby Scheme, which provides free home and security support for the vulnerable, elderly and victims of crime throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and the Blue Lamp Trust driver and rider training. Mike Stephens from the Medical Research Council explained why the council utilised the skills of the Blue Lamp Trust driver and rider trainers to deliver training for them in Gambia and two trainers from the project presented the benefits of the scheme to the crowd.

Workshops and seminars throughout the day also offered plenty of advice on road safety to the delegates.

Jim Bettley, General Manager of the Blue Lamp Trust, said: "Tiff Needell was the perfect keynote speaker for our event and is well-known across the country for his motoring expertise. His informative speech has helped to focus leaders from Hampshire companies' minds on driving with care. The aim is to help businesses do everything possible to ensure the safety of their staff and other road users. It was fantastic to see such a response at our fifth annual Blue Lamp Trust conference, and to showcase what we do to so many people."

The Blue Lamp Trust was set up by the Fire and Rescue Service and the Police to promote safety in the community. All profit from a range of driver training programmes is reinvested into running the popular Bobby Scheme, which provides free home safety and security for the vulnerable and elderly across Hampshire.
