Two local businesses have united in support of disabled teenage sailor, Natasha Lambert, and her latest daring challenge, a 231-mile journey to the centre of London.
Cowes Yacht Haven and PSP are providing crucial assistance for the beginning and the end of Natasha's challenge. The 17 year old will set sail on 23 May from her berth, subsidised by Cowes Yacht Haven, past Brighton, Eastbourne and Ramsgate before heading down the Thames to St. Katherine's Docks. PSP, which specialises in transportation of all kinds of boats, will then ensure her boat, Miss Isle Too, returns safely to Southampton.
Frank Dixie, managing director of PSP, said:
It's an absolute pleasure to continue our support for Natasha to help her realise her goals. We can't wait to see her arrive at St. Katherine's Docks and then make sure her boats make it back safely.
Ben Ferris, marina development manager at Cowes Yacht Haven, added:
It's our honour to support Natasha in an another of her incredible adventures, she's a true inspiration and we do all we can to help her and the very worthy charity she has founded.
In London, Natasha, who was born with cerebral palsy, will swap her boat for her walking aid and walk the square mile of the City of London. This astounding challenge is to raise money for Miss Isle School of Sip-Puff Sailing that she launched this week.
Natasha had always enjoyed sailing as a passenger but was desperate to helm a boat alone. In 2010 her father built a system that would allow Natasha to control her Artemis 20, Miss Isle, and Mini Transat, Miss Isle Too, with a single straw. She now wants her charity to enable other young people with similar disabilities to take to the water using her 'sip and puff' method.
Amanda Lambert, Natasha's mother, said:
We want to say a huge thank you to both PSP and Cowes Yacht Haven for continuing to support Natasha. This challenge would not be possible without everybody's help, it takes a whole team of passionate people.
