THE team of marketing experts at Carswell Gould put down their pens and picked up their bats on Thursday, July 23 as they headed off to the park to take part in a highly-enjoyable summer softball party. Despite early indications to the contrary, the sun appeared just in time and conditions were perfect for CG's clients, suppliers, friends and families to enjoy a relaxed evening together. Things were fiercely competitive from the word go as Gill Gould (managing director) and Ed Gould (creative director) drew up their teams. Somehow, Team Gill ended up with decidedly more players than Team Ed but the controversy didn't stop the game getting underway and everyone took to the pitch ready for action.
Big hitters included CG's own Martyna Stepien, Gareth Miller from Hampshire County Council, Unity 101's Ram Kalyan “Kelly”, and photographer Joe McCarthy. Owing more to lack of talent than tactical technique, others managed to hit the ball out of the park, meaning the more agile of the guests (namely the children) had to clamber over the fence and root through the bushes to retrieve the ball. Even Gill's dog, Scamp, got involved as he took up the role of chief canine fielder. It was, however, more difficult to persuade him to give the ball back.
Some truly spectacular cheating and creative fouling (on both sides) ensued so the final result was agreed to be a draw and it was lollipops all round as everyone was a winner.
Guests at the softball party also enjoyed a barbecue and drinks as they got the chance to mix in and meet new people. Gill said: "Our inaugural party last year was a big success and I think this year's event was even better. It was a wonderful end to the day and we all had a marvellous time. I still maintain my team won."
