One-off campaigns are old hat. It’s now about delivering ongoing engagement strategies that offer real value to your customers through an integrated approach.
The relationship between business and customer is changing at an ever-increasing rate. With the plethora of social channels now available to everyone and anyone, your customers are able to talk to family, friends, strangers and YOU, quickly and easily from anywhere on the planet.
This ability to tell the world how they feel about your staff, products or services has flipped the role of marketing on it’s head.
If you think about traditional tactics, a campaign would run as follows: A concept and strategy would be developed, material would be copy written and designed, and then it would all be unleashed on an unsuspecting public through advertising, press releases and direct mail. You’d then wait for the customers to start rolling in through raised awareness.
Before you know it, you’re back to square one, trying to do something different to last time, but also something different to EVERYBODY ELSE.This is very much like someone shouting at you until you’re beaten into submission.
Now consider the alternative.
You develop a strategy than can be maintained over a longer period with the focus being on feedback from the customer. You still produce similar material, but you encourage interaction from your target audience so that they get involved with your brand.
Respond to questions and comments, start up a dialogue and these customers will quickly become ambassadors, telling their network of contacts about you. We’re more likely to purchase based on a recommendation than an advert so the better the engagement you have with your existing customers, the more recommendations you’ll get for new business.
As long as your strategy is integrated, it doesn’t matter what method of communication your customer decided to use — they will be able to contact you and they will be expecting a reply. After all, wouldn’t you rather have a conversation instead of being dictated to?
