CG has been shortlisted for a national award for its work in social media.

The Social Buzz Awards celebrate and reward the best in social media communications in the UK and CG is up for the award in the ‘Best Travel/Leisure/Sports Social Media Strategy’ category for its work on the GORE-TEX® Arctic Challenge earlier this year.

This project has also been shortlisted for three CIPR PRide Awards, including an award for the ‘Best Use of Social Media’ category.

The challenge saw eight people, including Pete Goss MBE, travel some 1,000 miles from Scotland to the Arctic Circle in two small RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats), with the aim of promoting their use to a wider audience, proving their capabilities and encouraging people to get on the water.

To ensure the campaign ran smoothly, CG's Ed Gould joined the crew on the challenge. By taking part himself he was able to feed back high quality photography and video footage, respond to media requests from the remote locations and feed back blogs and social media updates from the water. All this meant nothing was missed and the public had the most up to date news on what the crew was doing.

As a result, the challenge reached millions of people online and benefitted from media coverage across the world. The Telegraph featured a double page spread and daily online blogs on the challenge, thanks to CG getting the paper’s features writer, Bryony Gordon, on board.

The winners of the 2011 Social Buzz Awards will be announced at a glitzy awards evening in London at the Wembley Stadium on December 1.
