Laura gets tough

Laura Downton, JustGiving

She’s scared of sparklers, loud noises and has, on occasion, jumped at the sight of her own shadow.

But on October 25 Carswell Gould’s Laura Downton will put her body and mind to the test as she takes on Tough Mudder.

The pint-sized PR professional will be running through 12 miles of mud and SAS style assault course challenges, crawling through water filled trenches, running through electrified wires and hauling herself over giant walls.

In doing so she aims to raise £1,000 for Pseudomyxoma Survivor and increase awareness of this rare type of cancer.

She said: “Late last year one of my close friends went to the doctor thinking she had a minor stomach problem. Her life was turned upside down when tests revealed she actually had Pseudomyxoma – a rare, jelly-like cancer that attaches itself to organs in your abdomen. A huge operation and gruelling chemotherapy meant that she’s thankfully on the mend and now I want to do all I can to raise money for a charity that helped her and will continue to help others in her situation for many years to come.”

In true CG style Laura has been keeping a blog documenting her training highs and lows.

Help her reach her £1,000 fundraising target by sponsoring her via her JustGiving page and to see a video of what she’s in for head to YouTube.
