Anticipation was in the air as eager members of the public and Red Funnel VIPs waited for HRH Princess Anne to give the brand new Red Jet 6 her approval by officially naming the new high-speed vessel.

Red Funnel worked with Shemara Refit LLP to make Red Jet 6 the first catamaran built in the UK in 16 years. The project cost £6 million, created more than 50 local jobs and employed apprentices to give them a huge boost to their budding careers in ship building.

Carswell Gould was on hand to help make sure the day was a success. The event saw the Princess Royal greet delegates from both Shemara and Red Funnel, and local dignitaries, as well as meeting 300 children from local schools in Cowes.

Attendees were also treated to a display from the Red Devils and a flyover from a Spitfire on a day that saw a celebration of British marine engineering.

VIPs and media then boarded Red Jet 6 and a pair of Blue Funnel pleasure ferries so that guests could view Red Jet 6 in action. Those in the two ferries saw the catamaran pull off some high-speed manoeuvres. All passengers were treated to a few tricks from Olympian Sir Ben Ainslie and his Land Rover BAR sailing team as they trained in the Solent ahead of the Americas Cup world series in Portsmouth later this month.

Journalists from both the BBC and ITV attended the event, as well as representatives from other local media outlets. Carswell Gould’s PR team made sure that the press got the interviews and shots they needed to ensure Red Jet 6 got the coverage it deserved.

Paul Clifton, transport correspondent for BBC South Today said:

“Thanks to the team at Carswell Gould for being so helpful. We got exactly what we needed, when we needed it. I couldn’t ask for more than that!”

Amy Grinstead, account manager at Carswell Gould, said:

“It was brilliant to see an event we have worked on for so long be such a success. We were delighted to help Red Funnel get so much coverage around the event.

“Last year we won silver at the CIPR Pride Awards for ‘best use of media relations’ for our work with Red Funnel and this is another demonstration of our skills in liaising with the media.”
