They are the stars of tomorrow and, on November 4, they will have their moment to shine.

City College Southampton is holding its annual awards evening, which recognises the outstanding successes of students from across the college. More than 40 students and apprentices will receive awards at the event and three businesses will be applauded for their commitment to the training and development of their staff.

The awards evening celebrates another successful year for City College. Among the highlights have been: working with Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing to build two RIBs for the America’s Cup; the launch of a brand-new website; working collaboratively with the region’s leading businesses, including Lovell, Oyster Yachts and Griffon Hoverwork; and numerous students winning regional and national awards for their industry skills.

As usual the awards evening will give current students a chance to show off their skills as they get involved in the running of the event. Media students will take care of filming, technical theatre students will ensure the stage is set and hospitality and catering students will create and serve cocktails and canapés. Performing arts students will entertain the audience and a couple of them will join the principal on stage as they read the award citations.

Sarah Stannard said: “City College works really hard to supports all its students to achieve their goals and give them a flying start to the rest of their lives or add another string to their bow.

“I’m looking forward to hearing all about their achievements at our awards evening, where we celebrate our students, the dedication of City College staff and the commitment of local employers to developing their teams and to supporting our students to gain the employability skills they need to be successful in finding a great job.”

The awards evening will take place at City College’s hub at 6.30pm.
