Q: Last year was tough for my business. I need to be in front of potential customers as the economy recovers, what can I do?

A: 2009 was tough for us all. Now's thaw out the budget carefully, plan and power through the year. Planning is critical and before you commit to any communication a marketing plan is essential to meet your business objectives. This will be helpful in: Identifying sources of competitive advantage Gaining commitment to a strategy from everyone Getting the resources needed to invest in and build the business Informing stakeholders Setting objectives and strategies Measuring performance

Check:

  1. Where are you now? Gather your team. Conduct a SWOT of your business, remembering your strengths and weaknesses are internal and opportunities and threats external.
  2. How did you get here? Have an honest look at why your turnover and/or profit has dropped. These should be apparent from your SWOT. Look at how you can now turn your weaknesses into strengths and threats into opportunities. Review your product, price, place of sale and effectiveness of all promotion - has it given you a return on investment? If you're in a service industry review staff, processes and your company's physical evidence.
  3. Where are you heading? Is it where you want to be? If not, now's the time to change.
  4. Where would you like to be? Set firm objectives. These must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound and must be monitored constantly.
  5. Are you on course? Have you everything in readiness? Are your budgets in place?

Then, start communicating. If you have any queries do get in touch. I am only too happy to help. Phone me on 02380 238001. Gill
