Carswell Gould's inaugural softball match and barbecue has been voted an outstanding success by all who attended the East Park event. Clients, their families and friends were invited to come along, mix in and enjoy an evening of food and fun in East Park. Blue skies and sunshine helped add to the party atmosphere - and the beer and Pimm's kept spirits high!
After a short warm-up to remind everyone of the rules, the "friendly" softball match soon became fiercely competitive, with Ed Gould's hard-hitting and even harder-bowling team eventually claiming a 12 - 10 (or thereabouts) victory over rivals led by Gill Gould. Captain Gill, though, claimed the moral victory, as a high proportion of her team was under nine years old, with rather more enthusiasm than skill!
There was also a fair amount of rule-bending and rule-ignoring and accusations of foul play were flung across the pitch more frequently (and some might say more accurately) than the balls!
Despite this, there was some surprisingly good play from both teams. Gary Thomasson from Rose Road and Gareth Miller from Hampshire County Council proved to be big hitters, while Sally Lynskey from Business Southampton and Bella Shaw from PwC were unexpectedly canny hitters and scored well. CG's own Stu and Ed were accurate bowlers and catchers.
Commenting on the evening Gill said: "I was delighted to see people getting to know one another socially and relaxing in this lovely sunshine. A big thank you everyone who came and helped to make it such a success - not forgetting the team at Parkafe for keeping us supplied with food and drink."
Bella Shaw agreed: "It's a pleasure to attend a business social event that's such fun; the Carswell Gould team certainly knows how to throw a party! And I didn't know we had such good facilities in the centre of the city - what a great discovery. I enjoyed mixing in and meeting new people and I'm looking forward to next year's return match."
