It is full steam ahead for one of Hampshire’s top tourist attractions, the Mid-Hants Railway Watercress Line - with its Miniature Railway on track to be open for the Easter holidays after undergoing extensive winter work.

Weeks of toil will see the ‘out and back’ miniature railway at one of the UK’s most popular heritage railways, ready for the family favourite Day Out With Thomas, running from April 14 – 23.

The considerable work has included restoring two replacement coaches that have been beautifully modified to meet the railway line’s specific needs. As part of the ongoing year-long programme of works, an additional 200m of track will be added to the track.

It means families will be able to hop on to the newly restored locomotives before taking a fun-filled ride along the meadow where beautiful flowers will be starting to bloom and watch the birdlife soaring above.

Caroline Appleton, Marketing Manager of Watercress Line, said: “There has been a tremendous amount of work through the winter that will improve the popular Miniature Railway and give visitors more to enjoy.

“The thrill of riding the miniature railway alongside our full-sized counterparts always creates some excited waving between the two sets of passengers!

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary since opening as one of the UK’s most popular heritage railways, we are delighted with the improvements in what promises to be a great year, with a series of events planned.”
