Hampshire Cultural Trust’s Winchester Discovery Centre welcomes the return of the Perlins Community Project. For three weeks from Saturday 27 February, the City Space within the Centre will display prints, paintings, photographs, music, film and even a garden shed.

The Art Collective was started in 2012 as part of Perlins Community Project. The idea was to give the project members an opportunity to explore their creativity. The project created a space for people to express themselves and use their imagination, while learning new creative skills with the help and guidance of a local artist.

The works are inspired by the artists taking time to look closely at their environment and by drawing on their own experiences. Watching the seasons change, putting pencil to paper and not being afraid, enjoying looking and using their imaginations and creativity to express what they see in the world around them; Winchester, their allotment and each other. Capturing fragments in time. These ideas are represented through painting, prints, music and film. Project members have also made all the frames for the exhibition and selection of cards, prints and paintings will be on sale during the exhibition.

Dan Slimm, of Perlins, said:

“Perlins Community Project is for adults with learning disabilities living in Winchester and the local area. This exhibition is a platform for us to share our work with you and show the talents and abilities of each individual”.

One project member said:

“It is amazing how we all pulled together to get all the art work and frames ready for the exhibition, screen printing, making picture frames, mounting the artwork and photography.

“Using all our skills and ideas, we support each other.”

All profits will be reinvested into the community project, with thanks to Utilita Energy, The Cottage workshop and Jess Lines and friends for all their support.

‘Fragments in Time’ opens on Saturday 27 February and finishes on Sunday 20 March. City Space is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sunday 11am to 3pm. It is on closed Bank Holidays.
