The Cowes Yacht Haven events centre will host a night of dinner and dancing in aid of the Martin Poynter Trust on April 2.
The black tie event will kick-start at 7:30pm till 12am, tickets are £30 and can be purchased through the charities Facebook page. The night is expected to raise £6000 and will go to the Stroke Association, which supports stroke suffers and families on the Island.
The event will celebrate the life of Martin Poynter, a much-loved fire fighter on the island, who played an instrumental role within the community. Martin contributed to charity work and served diligently as a member of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, before he died suddenly from a short illness last year in March.
Organisers have chosen to hold the night of celebration on Martin’s birthday. Over 250 people are expected to attend the night. Guests can enjoy a three-course dinner, a raffle and a dance to the beats of a Juicebox.
Claire Poynter, event organiser, said:
“Over the last 10 months the Trust has held a range of events to raise funds for the Stroke Association. We want to draw everyone's attention to strokes, which is the third biggest cause of death in the country. And make people aware of its causes and prevention.”
