City College Southampton has welcomed the Principal of a large college in China to take part in the Principal Shadowing programme.
Mr Ghumiao Zhu will be visiting a number of the South’s most prominent industries, attractions and events during his 10 day stay, including Southampton Docks, the Sea City Museum, the Mayflower Theatre, the Ford plant and Beaulieu Motor Museum.
As a guest of Lindsey Noble, CEO of City College, Mr Zhu will also be making a number of educational visits around the region, in addition to taking part in City College life.
Lindsey Noble said the City College was delighted to welcome Mr Zhu, who leads Anhui Province Automobile Industry College with 10,000 students and is the National Auto Repair Technical Training Base. His college is also the director unit of the Anhui Auto Vocational Education Group and Anhui Education International Exchange governing unit.
“City College is proud to have Mr Zhu as our guest and we have an extensive schedule planned which aims to promote the best practices of the UK’s Further Education colleges, together with the flourishing business scene we have in the South.
“During his time with us, we will be looking at the ways the Further Education system is managed in the UK, with a particular interest in how we track learner performance at City College.”
The Principal Shadowing programme is a leadership initiative, organised by the British Council, to give Principals an improved understanding on the best ways of leading and managing colleges. This is the first time City College has taken part as a host. In May, members of City College will be visiting China for a similar visit.
This week, Mr Zhu will be taking part in a City College board meeting; attending the AOSEC Principal’s conference in London; visiting the Marine Skills Centre, Southampton Docks, the Ford plant, Beaulieu, Portsmouth, Winchester and the Mayflower Theatre for dinner and to watch Sleeping Beauty on Ice.
At City College, he will join Lindsey and other members of the College’s Senior Leadership Team for a Business Solent City Deals working lunch, attend the Construction awards and a Southampton Studio School meeting.
