CG has long been involved in supporting students in their work and helping to make it easier for them to gain employment.

Since the company's inception 15 years ago it has worked with universities, supporting them with guest lecturing, hands-on training sessions and membership of employer advisor panels.

The difficulty in the present job market makes it vital for students to have relevant work experience on their CVs and to this end CG has set up a rolling programme of work experience for university students.

The programme means that there is always at least one work experience student at the CG offices at any one time and that students from cities across the south are constantly learning from the firm's expertise and are involved in all aspects of the agency's work.

Managing Partner, Gill Gould, said: "The region's universities are doing a fantastic job at arming their students with the theory, knowledge and skills they need but employers have a vital role to play by providing them with practical experience.

"This is not only proven to give them an edge in the employment market but to us helping to train the next generation of marketing, design and PR professionals is vital to ensure that the south is at the forefront of the industry in the future.

"We also want to encourage people to stay in the area and hope that their experience of working here, even for a short time, makes them aware of the great opportunities of working and living in the region."

Gill, who is also a guest lecturer in marketing at Southampton Solent University, added: "The more real-life experience these students have under their belts, the more well-rounded they will become and the more our industry and region will benefit in the long-term."

One of CG's recent interns was Dave Chaplin, an advertising undergraduate from Southampton Solent University.

He said: "I wanted to come here to see how everything comes together in an agency. I'd visited some London agencies before but it's not until you actually work somewhere that you get to understand the whole process from start to finish.

"With any work experience you expect to be at bottom of ladder doing menial tasks but it's been the complete opposite here, I've been right in the middle of everything and learnt a lot about PR and account management, which I hadn't studied in depth before."

Carswell Gould, which has its own school of marketing, also works with businesses across the south to provide marketing training.
