We recently supported Children in Need by taking on the challenge of cycling 150 virtual miles in one working day.
Members of our team and several of our clients took it in turns to cycle in our boardroom on a ‘smart turbo-trainer’ in the virtual world of Zwift. Each participant cycled in time slots of between 10-20 minutes throughout the day to reach the goal.
Gareth Miller, our Managing Director said: “We wanted the team and as many of our clients that we could persuade to join in, to do something a bit physical for Children in Need this year. As a keen cyclist myself I’ve been ‘Zwifting’ for a few months and had access to the equipment needed to turn our boardroom into a virtual Grand Tour.
Racing live against other Zwift users around the globe, everyone immersed themselves into the fictional world of Watopia and navigated hills and slopes to contribute as many miles as possible to our goal of 150.

Zwift is a multiplayer online cycling and running ‘gamified’ physical training programme that enables users to interact, train and compete in a virtual world.
On the day, we featured on BBC Children in Need’s official Twitter page and Zwift HQ in California tweeted the team saying “That’s so awesome”.
Visitors that joined the us on the day included James Gough from Southampton Cultural Development Trust, Jim Zalles from Mayflower 400 and Tere Daly, Pro Vice-Chancellor of External Relations at Solent University.
