Here at Carswell Gould we care a lot about the city we work in. So when we were invited to take part in discussions about Southampton’s future this week we jumped at the chance.
Southampton’s skyline has changed dramatically over the last decade, with the evolution of the new cultural quarter, the rise of Ocean Village and the transformation of Guildhall Square. There are more plans on the horizon too, with the redevelopment of Royal Pier being something our clients Terence O’Rourke, ABP Port of Southampton, Red Funnel and Solent LEP are heavily involved in.
Last week’s event, led by Southampton City Council, Business Solent and Hampshire Chamber of Commerce brought together business leaders from across the city to discuss the evolution of the city in the coming years, which will help to inform the new Local Plan.
Together with our peers and many of our clients we looked at the challenges Southampton faces and how transport and infrastructure will help make it a better place to live, work and do business.
One of the overriding themes of the day was how businesses and local government can work together to make the city an attractive place that draws in new businesses and talent.
Laura Downton, Carswell Gould’s PR Account Manager, said:
“One of the biggest difficulties businesses are currently facing is finding and retaining talent. In order to bring these people to the city and keep them here we need to have the right facilities and environment, including good housing, leisure facilities and arts and culture. Having the right people in place will help businesses to grow and add even more to the local economy.”
