Art in the Jungle, an exhibition of artwork which has crossed the channel from the Good Chance Theatre in Calais’ Jungle, arrived in Aldershot this week (January 6).

Well-established British artist, Suzanne Partridge, has been artist in residence at the Good Chance Theatre – a dome-shaped tent - at a migrant camp in Calais for over three months.

Suzanne said:

“It’s been a truly humbling experience witnessing the refugees’ willingness to work and participate.”

“When I first arrived in the Jungle I worked in a majority Sudanese Camp, which was populated predominantly by men. Despite this, and the language barrier, I was able to communicate with them.”

Janet Owen, chief executive of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said:

“We feel honoured to welcome Art in the Jungle to the West End Centre this month and urge the people of Hampshire to come along and see the poignant artwork for themselves. The pieces depict how art can dignify humanity – it is a truly special exhibition.”

Art in the Jungle arrived at the West End Centre on January 6 and parks up until January 31. Entry is free. Suzanne will hold a Q&A session in the Gallery on January 28, at 7pm.
