Business networking events may sometimes seem like a bore but in this tight climate you need to force yourself out of your comfort zone and begin to share issues and advice within your business network.
Business networking is an art, not a science. But good networking takes skill, and the more experience you have, the better you'll become, not only at creating a network but also at the actual art of networking.
Penny Power, founder of Ecademy told businessandnetworking.co.uk: "Ultimately, to survive the recession, businesses need to be able to put their head on their pillow at night and say to themselves: 'Am I more visible tonight than I was this morning?', and 'Have I gained an advocate today that can refer business to me and I, in turn, can help them?'"
Firstly try to discover where other people are struggling and subtly sell your services over a glass of wine. It is well known that people like talking to people, so if you can promote your services while charming someone, then you might just have landed some new business or a valuable contact for the future.
If you get nervous, remember they are just people too!
