Nice to tweet you, minister

Cheeky tweets, ‘Thunderclaps’ and bike detectors: not the usual ingredients for a technology sector PR project, but they all added together to make for one hell of a campaign for SETsquared.

The university business incubator, ranked 2nd in the world and 1st in Europe, relies on us to deliver hard-hitting PR, social media and media relations and they get it in droves with consistent coverage and ever-increasing online engagement.

In its 10th year, SETsquared gave us a specific brief to raise awareness of its Accelerating Growth event, a major investor showcase in London which saw 50 of the UK’s most exciting tech start-ups pitch for more than £13m investment.

We hit the nationals hard, securing coverage in the likes of the Telegraph, Guardian, Observer and Express. A parallel push saw coverage achieved across a range of technology and investment trade publications, including Wired, BBC Technology and Angel News. Our media relations team also secured Financial Times journalist, Jonathan Moules, to take part in a panel discussion on the day.

A specific strategy was devised to raise awareness of the event online. It included direct targeting of MPs and Government ministers, which directly resulted in Skills Minister, Matt Hancock MP, attending the event.

A ‘Thunderclap’ ensured 128 people tweeted simultaneously about SETsquared at 9am on the day of Accelerating Growth and the event hashtag was seen in 583,865 timelines.

The ripple effects of this success are still felt as we continue to deliver consistent online engagement and offline coverage for SETsquared.
